Fall 2018 registration is open through August 23

Registration is open July 26 – August 23. Practices start Saturday, August 18th, under the direction of Chris Swartz, Director of Rowing. Chris has recruited multiple coaches to work with our kids this fall and we are looking forward to watching the athletes work hard, have fun, and perform well on the water. Go here to register: https://www.regattacentral.com/clubs/?org_id=509

Practices will run Monday-Thursday afternoons and Saturday morning. Friday afternoon practices in the fall will be as needed, and when scheduled may include only a subset of the squad. Weekday practice times will be in the 4-7pm range, with no athlete’s practice exceeding 2.5 hours (ideally a little less than that). We will finalize practice windows as we understand the roster composition. We know that for suburban middle schoolers it can be nearly impossible to get to Griggs by 4pm on a weekday, and that will be part of our scheduling process. Saturday practices will be in the 7:30-10:00am range, again perhaps staggered based on roster composition. To set expectations early, in the spring practices will run M-Sat.

Our regatta schedule is as follows:
• Saturday, September 22, Frogtown Memorial Regatta (Toledo, OH)
• Saturday, October 13, Hoover Fall Classic (Westerville, OH)
• Saturday, October 27, Blake Haxton International (Columbus, OH)
• Saturday, October 28, Speakmon Memorial (Columbus, OH)

In addition to those regattas Coach Swartz will be scheduling a local scrimmage or two to get our athletes more competition opportunities up and down the roster. More details on those to come. At some point in late October/early November we will need athlete help to move the boats into winter storage.

Fees for novice and varsity rowers will remain at $800 for the season. A rower classifies as novice is if they are in their first year of rowing competitively at the high school level. A rower classifies as varsity if they are at least one year removed from their first competitive rowing season as a high schooler. These novice and varsity classifications adhere to US Rowing guidelines and are administrative only. For practices and competition, under the supervision of Chris Swartz and the coaches, athletes will be placed in lineups that make themselves, their teammates, and the whole squad the most competitive. Chris and the coaching staff’s promise is that each athlete will work to achieve their full potential on the water and in the classroom.

For 7th/8th grade rowers the fee is $600, reflecting a full-time practice commitment and additional scrimmage opportunities. Middle school rowers are held out of some regattas (including Toledo) in order to comply with some regatta rules and to avoid prematurely starting their US Rowing ‘varsity clock’.

As always, when you register, you can pay directly through Regatta Central. However, if you write a check or use your bank’s electronic bill pay, we will save over $20 on fees. Mail or e-pay to Dublin Crew, PO Box 764, Dublin, OH 43017. Put your child’s name in the memo field.

Our parent meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd, at the pavilion at Griggs reservoir (time TBD). We are excited for the fall 2018 season of Dublin Crew, and hope you will join us!
