25 years of rowing excellence

Dublin Crew Coaches

Dublin Crew coaching is supervised by Chris Swartz, Dublin Crew’s Director of Rowing. Dublin Crew has paid coaches for its Varsity squads as well as Novice / Middle School teams.  We are also fortunate to have the assistance of volunteer coaches.

Chris Swartz

Director of Rowing

As Director of Rowing, Chris oversees the training of Dublin Crew’s squads, including the coaching staff and the equipment.
Chris comes to Dublin Crew with a wealth of experience as a teacher, coach, and leader in the central Ohio rowing community. He taught history, philosophy, and US government at Upper Arlington for over 20 years before retiring in 2015. Chris attended and rowed at Marietta College and then went on to found the Ohio State Crew Club in 1978 while he was completing his Master’s degree. He has coached at Greater Columbus Rowing Association, Upper Arlington, and Pine Crest school in Florida, leading his teams to multiple medals including 49 winning boats at Midwest Regionals. Chris is a United States Rowing Association Certified Coach and Coaching Education Instructor and has led multiple coach training sessions for US Rowing. He founded and coordinated both the Jack Speakmon and Blake Haxton regattas.
Chris’s philosophy can best be described as:
1. Safety first and always
2. Develop each member as a student, an athlete, and a person
3. Build Dublin Crew to the pre-eminent youth rowing team in central Ohio

Our Coaching Staff

Brendan Leonard

Coach Leonard is both a former rower and coach for Dublin Crew, having rowed for three years during high school while attending Dublin Jerome, and coaching for the Varsity Women during the fall 2015 season. Having completed his M.Ed at The Ohio State University with licensure to teach for high school social studies and integrated business, Coach Leonard will be teaching Marketing and Entrepreneurship this fall at Walnut Ridge High School in the Columbus City Schools District. As coach of the novice crews, Coach Leonard has the goal of establishing a firm grasp of the fundamentals and to foster a love of the sport amongst his rowers. Go DC!

Brooks Reavill

Coach Reavill was a four-year varsity oarsman at Brown University. His career included silver medal finishes at Eastern Sprints and IRA championships in the Freshman 8+ and Varsity Heavyweight 8+. He placed 4th in the U23 4- at the 2016 World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands. His experiences in Division I rowing will be an asset for individuals navigating the college recruitment process. He coached at Providence Rowing camp before going back to school to complete a M.A. in Sport and Health Psychology at Adler University in Chicago, IL. Coach Reavill looks forward applying a holistic approach to training his crews physically and mentally so they can be prepared for the competitive season. Go Dublin Crew!

Jackie Spiropoulos

Jackie is excited to return to Dublin Crew as coach of the Varsity Women’s squad (interestingly enough, she was voted “Most Likely to Come Back and Coach Dublin Crew” by her teammates in high school). Jackie rowed for Dublin Crew for four years while attending Bexley High School. In 2014, she was recruited to row for the West Virginia University’s women’s rowing program. She graduated in May of 2018 with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Professional Writing and Editing, which she is utilizing as an English tutor and SAT/ACT prep instructor. Jackie’s goal as a coach is to develop athletes holistically, help athletes earn collegiate athletic scholarships, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Dublin Crew program.
