Help Dublin Crew Remain Competitive

Dublin Crew fosters excellence and teamwork for life through rowing. Our coaches focus their attention on rowers and coxswains while parents and volunteers, under the governance of bylaws and a board of directors, help run the organization.

The magnitude of equipping a rowing team is significant and Dublin Crew is indebted to our founders, alumni athletes and families, and parents who provide immeasurable support for the sport. Dublin Crew is building on a 20-year tradition of financial and volunteer commitments to obtain new equipment.

Support Behind the Sport

Dublin Crew operates with help from parents who willingly volunteer to support the sport their children love. Volunteers are especially critical to the success of the Ohio Governor's Cup Regatta, which Dublin Crew hosts each spring in partnership with Greater Columbus Rowing Association (GCRA).

GCRA hosts the Speakmon Memorial Regatta each fall and counts on mutual assistance from Dublin Crew volunteers.

Parents, family, friends and alumni can peruse this information to consider opportunities to help.

Committed, reliable volunteers are crucial to hosting a successful event. Volunteers help offset regatta expenses and allow the hosting clubs to recoup entry fees for fundraising efforts.

Setting up and tearing down a regatta course is especially important work. It is physically demanding and must be accomplished in all kinds of weather. Volunteers must be physically able and prepared to reach into the Scioto River to clip buoys to steel cables on the 2,000 meter course. It involves staying "on the water" in launch boats with volunteer drivers until the job is done. Heavy-duty gloves required.

Launch drivers must be experienced at operating a small outboard engine boat to manuever set-up and tear-down volunteers on the river while they clip buoys to lane lines. You'll slowly steer the boat down the course lane lines. Be prepared for all kinds of weather!

Setting up and tearing down docks and stake boat platforms also involves "on water" work from launch boats.

Volunteer shifts for course set-up and tear-down take place the day before, day of, and the day after the regatta. Please plan accordingly when committing to help Dublin Crew and GCRA.

The Speakmon Memorial Regatta is a wonderful opportunity for Dublin Crew to raise significant money in partnership with Greater Columbus Rowing Association (GCRA).

The two rowing organizations team up to match volunteer hours in support of their respective regattas.

Dublin Crew adults must volunteer a minimum of 178 volunteer hours at the 2011 Speakmon Memorial Regatta to match the contribution provided by GCRA in support of Dublin Crew's previous Ohio Governor's Cup Regatta. Hours in excess of the minimum earn financial support for Dublin Crew at the rate of $10 per hour. Volunteer positions are in 4 hour blocks.

Details about volunteer sign-up will be available soon.

Kroger Community Rewards Program

Many of you have already registered your Kroger Plus card online to participate in the Kroger Community Rewards Program for Dublin Crew. Thank you! If you have not yet registered your Kroger Plus card online, you can still do so. Look for detailed instructions soon.

As of Aug. 1, 2010, all proceeds from the Kroger rewards program are directed to Dublin Crew's equipment fund.

Under Kroger's program guidelines, Dublin Crew no longer receives a guaranteed 5 percent.  Kroger will pay up to $1,250,000 on a quarterly basis to all participating organizations based on their percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending of all participating Kroger Community Rewards organizations.  No one organization can earn more than $50,000 per quarter.  Each household is limited to $300 each quarter.  We have no way to know ahead of time how much Dublin Crew will be earning.

No Kroger funds will be reimbursed to families as they are not considered cash donations to the club.
